Ford Coaxing 75,000 To Leave And Take Severance Packages

Is Ford Motor Company really planning to go private and ditch the over regulation, which is hurting its business model and make decisions based on what is good for the company and not the regulators, accountants and lawyers? Is Ford Motor Company truly looking to cut the red tape and simplify its business model once and for all?

Ford is currently working to trim its shortfalls and its incredible pension contribution demands, while eliminating union workers as well. Ford Motor Company is coaxing 75,000 to leave and take severance packages right now. Does this make sense?

Apparently it does nevertheless Wall Street is selling the stock and sending it tumbling, but Ford is about to announce some new initiatives, which may rebound that stock. How much is ford offering those leaving the company in their severance package? Some 123 million dollars, which is a fairly big one-time hit for Ford, but would end up saving them money in the end.

Apparently the UAW Auto Workers also see this as a fairly good package considering the future prospects. Ford Motor Company already told the Wall Street it had planned to cut 300,000 jobs and shut down 12-14 factories and so taking the package might be a very good idea indeed say some auto workers.

Why You Can’t Get Your Car Fixed Right The First Time

While there are a number of factors why it’s difficult to get your car fixed right the first time, the primary reason is the skill of the mechanic doing the repair.

According to studies, 70% of automotive technicians are not qualified to work on your car. This includes technicians from dealerships, local shops, and franchises.

Over a decade ago, automotive manufacturers were predicting widespread shortages in “qualified” technicians. Now, given that 80% of the functions of the average car are controlled by electronics, qualified technicians are in even greater demand. This is evidenced by the numerous advertisements for master technicians which include a $1000 to $5000 sign-on bonus.

Today’s mechanics must be “technicians” in the true sense of the word. Technicians need an in-depth understanding of the advanced and interactive theory of mechanical, electrical, and computer systems. Today’s cars are literally a network of computers on wheels.

The true technicians are the guys who can navigate multiple systems of theory to diagnose what’s causing your car to intermittently stall at highway speeds in cold weather, on Route 66 every other Thursday morning, when it rains. Unfortunately, these guys are rare.

Automotive technology has advanced far beyond local mechanics, most of whom are still struggling with basic electronics (see the Acceleration of Price-Gouging @ EzineArticles.com or visit www.repairtrust.com/articles.html).

The service industry has always lagged behind in adequate training. It has responded somewhat in recent years, but it’s too little too late. Training alone will not make up for the years of lost time, coupled with the technological advancements to come.

Preparing For a Road Trip

There is a lot of differences of opinion on whether a car trip is a good thing or a bad thing. Some people love the idea of getting away in a car and taking a few days, or even weeks to get to their destination. Other people, me included, hate to take car trips and find them boring. Sometimes we even find it difficult to stay awake because we dislike the inactivity of a long drive. But no matter if we love or hate to take a car trip there are several things that should be done ahead of time to save you a lot of misery later on while you are on the road.

1. Give a visible inspection - Make sure that you walk around your car and check for anything that might cause trouble down the road. Are the tires fully inflated and in good condition? If not you could end up like me and have to change the tire 100 miles from home when you are on a 2000 mile road trip. Also make sure that all lights are working and get new windshield wipers to help keep your windshield clear.

2. Check the fluids - Make sure that your oil and other vital fluids are at premium levels and are not in need of changing. Your car will be working overtime and you do not want to give it any more stress than is necessary by not giving it the proper lubricant to handle the additional strain.

3. Clean the car - A clean car, inside and out, is a comfortable car. If you just throw your luggage into the car haphazardly you will end up a little more frustrated than if you make sure everything is in it’s place. Also less clutter tends to put you in a better frame of mind so that you can relax and enjoy the drive.

4. Top off the tank - Make sure that you top off the tank early so that you don’t have to stop too soon on your trip. It is always good to put as many miles as possible between you and your house before you have to make your first stop, which gives you a feeling of accomplishment and helps the time go more quickly.

These are just a few tips to help you to make your car trip more enjoyable. Above all else make sure that you are safe. Wear your seatbelt and get plenty of rest when needed. If you start to feel drowsy try eating something like sunflower seeds one at a time or doing some deep breathing exercises. You would be surprised at how much that helps you to get over a sleepy moment. Take time to relax and enjoy the head time, and have a good trip.

Why You Should Always Keep a Batteryless Flashlight In Your Car

One may think; “well it’s just a flashlight, why do I need to worry about what kind I have”. While that is true, knowing the difference between a regular flashlight and a batteryless flashlight can really make you see things under a different light (pun intended).

In this day and age, you can never be too prepared. In addition to a regular high-power flashlight, you should also have at least a couple of batteryless flashlights handy in your car. “Why?”; you ask? It never hurts to be ready for the unknown. Let’s say you’re driving down a dark, lonely road and, God forbid, your car breaks down. Your car’s lights will only do so much while you wait for help. You may need to check something in the hood or under the car, whatever the case may be, you will need light.

Now, say that you never had the need to use that fancy high-power battery flashlight that you’ve had in the trunk for the past two years? You go take the flashlight out from your trunk, only to find out that the batteries have had leakage and the thing will not turn on. Aside from causing you a whole lot of disappointment, this would create great difficulty in your efforts to get back on the road.

The advantage of having a batteryless flashlight available is obvious - you don’t need batteries. Taking the same situation into account, it doesn’t matter how long those flashlights have been in your trunk. All you would have to do is give the flashlight a good shake for about 30-60 seconds, and you would have nice, bright light for enough time to quickly fix something under your hood or change a tire.

As we can see, while it is a good idea to keep a regular battery powered flashlight handy in your car, it definitely does not hurt to have a couple of batteryless (also known as “shake flashlights”) flashlights available either. When the situation calls for it, they can prove to be really useful. These days batteryless flashlights are inexpensive, durable, and come in compact sizes.

So let’s make sure we take the time to equip ourselves for unforeseen circumstances and invest in some batteryless flashlights to keep around the house and in our cars.
