Why Hire A Personal Injury Attorney?

Before you can make a decision as to whether or not you should hire a personal injury attorney / lawyer, you first have to know what a personal injury case is.

Most people think that a personal injury claim is a car or motor vehicle accident claim. While an injury sustained in an automobile accident where another was at fault would be a personal injury claim, there are many other matters that also fall under that heading.

A personal injury attorney / lawyer handles matters where there has been a personal injury, either physical or emotional, which was caused by the negligence of another. If there was no negligence then there is no case. There must be negligence, whether intentional or unintentional, on the part of another, for a claim to be valid. In other words, you would have trouble making a case against your landlord, where you spilled water on your kitchen floor and then slipped and fell because of the water. However, if the landlord had failed to fix the plumbing under your sink and the water was on the floor because of leaky plumbing then you may, I say may, have a case. There are other variables that could come into play and you would need to seek the advice of a good personal injury attorney, in order to determin your rights.

There are many matters other than car accident matters that can many times be included under personal injury, IE: slips and falls, workplace accidents (after a workplace accident you may be covered under workers compensation or disability but you may also have a personal injury claim), injuries caused during a storm or power outage, airplane, bus and train crashes, construction accidents, fires, food poisoning, drug or vitamin overdoses, animal bites, getting beat up, robbed or otherwise injured inside or outside of a business, medical malpractice and even malpractice by an attorney.

There are many variables that can come into play in determining negligence and many times you may think that there was no negligence on the part of anyone when there actually was. I myself, know of a case where a party was struck by a car while riding a motorcycle and injured severely. He settled with the driver and the driver’s insurance company for the $100,000.00 maximum of the driver’s insurance policy. This settlement did not even begin to cover his medical bills. Some time later, a personal injury attorney, while speaking with a member of the injured party’s family, found about the case and was asked to look into it for the family. The injured party was broke and paralyzed. The attorney did some checking and then agreed that, even though the man had accepted the settlement, there might still be a case. He then hired my detective agency and another to do further research. Finally, he filed a law suit against the car driver, the drivers insurance company, the motorcycle manufacturer and others. I won’t go into the whole case, but suffice it to say that he went to trial and ended up obtaining a verdict against several of the parties, including the drivers insurance company and the motorcycle manufacturer, for several million dollars and the injured party is no longer broke. I might add that the attorney took the case on contingency and advanced, out of his own pocket, all of the expenses including court costs and investigation fees.

The point of the foregoing is that if you have been injured, you should seek the advice of a competent personal injury attorney even if you don’t think that there is anyone at fault. Only a good experienced personal injury attorney can attempt to make that determination.

What Comprises a Motorcycle Insurance Quote?

A motorcycle insurance quote is based on the type of insurance coverage a motorcyclist requires. The most basic element of an insurance quote for motorbikes is the liability coverage which includes coverage for bodily injury per person, bodily injury per accident and property damage coverage per accident. It is always a good idea to obtain more extensive liability insurance than what the law requires because drivers can sue other drivers who injure them in accidents and minimum liability insurance does not cover this risk.

If a rider causes an accident, collision insurance will cover the cost of motorcycle repair. Collision coverage is the most expensive component of a motorcycle insurance quote. A higher deductible can result to a lower premium. The cost of replacing a motorcycle or repairing damages with materials of similar kind and quality, without removing depreciation, is the replacement cost. Depreciation is the estimated value of the vehicle when wear and tear is taken into account. Insurance companies would declare a motorcycle a total loss when the repair costs exceed a given percentage of the motorcycle’s worth.

Comprehensive coverage, on the other hand, pays for motorcycle damages that are not due to an accident. This covers anywhere from damages caused by theft, fire, vandalism, disasters to hitting an animal on the road. It is wise to check a motorcycle’s book value as insurance companies do not normally pay more than this particular value.

Another part of the insurance package for motorcycles is the medical payments that cover the medical expenses incurred by the rider and his passenger, if any. The expenses can come from accidents while riding one’s own motorcycle or someone else’s with permission. It also covers injuries incurred as pedestrians. Expanded forms of this coverage include personal injury protection and broader no-fault coverage, which may pay for lost income and child care.

Meanwhile, coverage for uninsured and underinsured motorists pays for injuries incurred by a rider if he figures in an accident where the other party or parties have no insurance. Some companies even provide coverage for property damage. Other supplemental coverage products are also offered by companies either as part of the master policy or as separate premium items. These could include rental reimbursement, towing and labor costs and gap coverage for a new motorcycle. The last item pays for the difference in the actual cash value of the insured motorcycle and the amount left on its financing if it was declared a total loss in an accident.

Most consumers would admit to not fully understanding a motorcycle insurance quote that is provided for them when purchasing insurance for their motorcycle. People tend to focus on the bottom line figure giving little or not attention to how this figure was arrived at. It would be wise to gain an understanding of the basic features of a motorcycle insurance policy if only to realize that the money paid for the premium is indeed well spent.

The Demand for Cheap Motorcycle Insurance

Motorcycle owners know the importance of protecting their vehicles and themselves from unforeseen events. As consumers, motorcycle riders are always on the look out for good deals. These riders would be pleasantly surprised at the growing number of insurance companies offering cheap motorcycle insurance. The companies themselves shun the term cheap though; they fear that consumers might view cheap as having low quality, or in the case of insurance coverage, being inadequate and weak. Insurers have found ways of cutting down the cost of insurance premiums to attract more customers. Apart from the basic reduction in rates, companies have devised economical packages and combinations of coverage to suit every driver’s needs.

Insurers have also adopted a more lenient definition of insurable risks. They now offer insurance to new riders and to companies that use motorcycles in their operation, a segment of the market which, before, has been neglected for posing too high a risk to riders. Cheap motorcycle insurance nowadays comes with high standards of coverage and customer care at the barest of requirements. And as with all other providers of products and services, insurance companies have recognized the potential of offering their products over the Internet. The perennial bricks and mortar insurance industry has been quick to get into the dot.com bandwagon. Insurance products offered online have been warmly received by the market. This has also enabled insurers to reduce costs in various aspects of their business.

Motorcycle riders seeking insurance coverage now have endless options available to them. Experience shows that a large portion of the market still prefer the human element when acquiring insurance coverage, but a growing number of motorists are turning to the online insurance providers for a faster and more economical service. Most insurers offer both options and they keep the expenses incurred and the prices of products of their online and offline operations separate while both focusing on the needs of their customers. Of course, the rates between these two selling channels vary due in part to the different cost of doing business.

The more comprehensive insurance packages offered by companies usually offer coverage for bodily injury and property damage liability, own-damage and collision, uninsured and underinsured motorists, medical costs, custom parts and equipment and roadside support. Different jurisdictions require different extents of coverage but motorists should always consider purchasing more than what is required to better protect themselves against lawsuits and larger expenses.

Nothing comes cheap these days but with the competition in the motorcycle insurance sector, insurers have began to see their way through offering cheap motorcycle insurance to address the growing demand for easy-access, no frills coverage. Motorcycle riders now have a wide range of choices for insurance coverage at very reasonable costs.

Motorcycle Insurance Tips

Motorcycles are very popular among the youth as they offer a fun way to ride, are economical to maintain, and give a chance to experience freedom while driving. At the same time, they are more prone to accidents than cars. Hence it becomes important to buy motorcycle insurance. Before venturing out on the road, it is essential that you carry minimal cover, according to the government rules. With so many insurers offering different motorcycle insurance policies, you need to shop around to find a policy with the lowest premium. If you are in the process of buying motorcycle insurance here are some useful guidelines to buy the right policy.

What does motorcycle insurance premiums depend on?

Motorcycle Insurance premiums are decided based on the following factors; riding experience, age, market value of the bike, type of bike e.g. cruiser, touring, sport, sport or touring, your residence locality e.g. crime-infested areas will attract higher premiums, size of the engine like under 500cc, 500-750cc, 750-1000cc and 1000 or more, mileage, any training on motorcycle driving and number of years you have been insured.

How should I buy the cheapest motorcycle insurance?

Since many companies consider motorcycles to be a high-risk mode of transport, they tend to charge a higher premium. But still you can save money by shopping around. Get an insurance quote from a few companies and compare the rates. But it does not mean that the cheapest quote is also the best. Take a motorcycle-riding course to lessen the premium charges. The premiums attracted by older, slower vehicles are far less than those charged on new models.

What are the types of Motorcycle Insurance Coverage?

· Liability in an accident to insure others against damages; · Passenger liability to cover injuries and physical harm to people in the car; · Uninsured motorist, which protects you against drivers with no insurance; · Medical expenses caused in an accident; · Collision and Comprehensive, covers the costs incurred on repairing or replacing your motorcycle and also against fire, theft and vandalism are the common types of coverage’s.

Besides, you can also insure to protect against any changes done to the bike and its equipments. If you are a beginner, start with a good, simple motorcycle insurance policy. This will increase your chances of getting advanced policies later on, besides saving your money.

Progressive Motorcycle Insurance Features and Coverages

Progressive Motorcycle Insurance is one of the top-selling insurance product lines in the United States. The provider offers its motorcycle insurance products through two distinct marketing channels called Drive and Progressive Direct. The former corresponds to the needs of customers off- line while the latter caters to online buyers and consumers.

Motorcycle riders shopping for insurance have many ways of purchasing a policy. At Progressive, customers have a choice between Drive and Progressive Direct. Drive policies are offered through brokers and agents while Progressive Direct is for riders who prefer making their purchase online or through the telephone. Whatever option customers prefer, Progressive motorcycle insurance can lay out a series of options from which buyers can take their pick.

The premiums for Drive and Progressive Direct are different. When insurance is purchased through an agent or broker, as in the case of Direct policies, the motorcycle insurance quote factors in the commission of the agent or broker who made the sale. On the other hand, Progressive Direct policy rates incorporate the cost of maintaining a direct-selling center.

The protection provided by Progressive include bodily injury and property damage liability, collision and comprehensive, uninsured and underinsured motorists, medical payments, custom parts and equipment, and roadside assistance. Valued customers can enjoy significant discounts and riders with a good safety record are given low premium quotes. Insurance quotes are computed based on a rider’s safety record, marital status, age, type of motorcycle and the number of claims made against previous policies. Progressive also has a discount tie-up and is offering coverage for multiple motorcycles and a homeowner’s discount.

The company underwrites policies for a variety of motorcycle types. It provides coverage for customized motorcycles and bikes that are over 25 years old. Motorcycles are classified into several types and the more popular types include, the cruiser, the limited production cruiser, street sport, high-performance, touring, sport touring, regular, dual purpose or endure, motocross or dirt bike, mopeds, scooter and trike.

Progressive motorcycle insurance has become easily accessible through the company’s Web site. The site offers information not only about motorcycle insurance, but everything that has to do with riding a motorcycle. Most valuable to riders is the information on U.S. state laws pertaining to motorcycle driving. The site also offers road safety tips and recommends motorcycle safety equipment and devices to give customers a better idea of how to take care of themselves and their vehicles.
