PACKER NOTEBOOK; Pickett OK after car accident; Defensive tackle

Green Bay Ryan Pickett, one of the Green Bay Packers’ prize free- agent acquisitions in the off-season, missed three practices over the weekend after being involved in an auto accident Saturday outside of Lambeau Field.

Pickett suffered what was termed a slight concussion when his Ford Expedition was hit on the driver’s side as he pulled out of the parking lot on the north side of Lambeau Field and onto Lombardi Avenue.

Pickett was struck by a vehicle heading east as he tried to cross the east-bound lanes and turn west.

Four people in the other car were transported to Green Bay hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Pickett was cited by Green Bay police for failure to yield.

The accident occurred at about noon and Pickett missed the 2 p.m. practice on Saturday. Pickett did some individual work during the two practices on Sunday and then returned to full duty on Monday.

He also had to endure the wrath of his teammates’ jokes in the locker room.

“Man, I’m going to have to deal with this all year,” he said as he was surrounded by reporters on Sunday and was subjected to a string of comments from his teammates.

Pickett was not taken to a hospital but saw Packer team doctors in the team’s facilities and was then sent home to rest.

“I just regret that somebody else was involved in a car wreck in a car full of people,” Pickett said on Sunday. “I regret that it happened.”

Although he was subjected to his teammates’ ribbing, Pickett also realized he was fortunate.

“It is fortunate because it could have been so much worse,” Pickett said. “It looked bad. If you saw the cars, my main concern was them. They could have been a lot worse off than what it was. So, I’m just happy that they’re all right.”
