eLEC Communications Affiliate RiderPoint, Inc. Announces the Launch of Exclusive Rate Now, Buy Now E-Commerce Technology

RiderPoint, Inc., an affiliate of eLEC Communications Corp. (NASDAQ: ELEC) and provider of comparative motorcycle insurance rates online, announced today that it has successfully deployed its exclusive Rate Now, Buy Now technology at www.riderpoint.com.

The Rate Now, Buy Now technology allows customers to shop and purchase motorcycle insurance online in a comparative environment. The technology provides customers with significant amounts of information on each insurance carrier, including the details of the programs that they qualify for. The entire Rate Now, Buy Now process only takes minutes to complete and includes allowing the customer to print all of the necessary documents, including proof of insurance.

Prior to the addition of Rate Now, Buy Now technology our customers were only able to shop online for comparative insurance quotes,” said Craig Gironda, CEO of RiderPoint, Inc. “This technology makes it possible for them to purchase online. The process has been designed to be quick and easy for our customers to navigate. Every step has on-screen instructions to assist the customer in purchasing the right insurance coverage for their needs.”

“We are quite pleased with RiderPoint’s progress,” stated Paul H. Riss, CEO of eLEC Communications. “Together, we have created a very consumer-friendly insurance site, with easy-to-use tools that provide consumers with insurance information and e-commerce in an integrated environment.”

Razorfish Helps Universal Underwriters Group Create New B2B Initiative

Razorfish, Inc. (NASDAQ:RAZF), the global digital solutions provider, in conjunction with Universal Underwriters Group (UUG), provider of insurance and financial services to dealerships and automotive-related businesses, today announced the launch of a business-to-business website that will be used for the online sale of vehicle service contracts.

Razorfish teamed with UUG to develop and launch the eVSC B2B website for the company’s leading finance and insurance product, Vehicle Service Contract. eVSC will be used by automobile dealerships, after market suppliers, automobile associations, insurance companies, and other companies dealing in the automotive industry. eVSC will be available to these partners to sell contracts or mechanical breakdown insurance to their clients in the U.S. and Canada. The introduction of the site will help UUG simplify their current business processes, save time and money, and create more value for their customers. By adding the Internet as a key component of UUG’s strategy, the company will simplify the way their partners do business with them and streamline product introduction and distribution.

“We are extremely pleased with the work Razorfish has done on this project,” said Mark Kissick, vice president of e-commerce, UUG. “They have been a valuable collaborator and trusted advisor to us throughout this engagement, and their expertise in technology, strategy and design have allowed us to meet the needs of our customers.”

eVSC is the first step in a multi-phase project to completely migrate UUG’s current VSC application from a legacy-based mainframe to a web-based application. The legacy system was heavily paper-based and required substantial manual effort to support. By moving to the web-based environment, UUG has eliminated many of the manual processes as well as a substantial amount of paper — saving both time and money. The site incorporates a sophisticated rating engine that eliminates the time consuming and costly process of developing rates and rate books for the partners. In addition, the eVSC system offers UUG’s partners personalized features such as providing sales tools and training to assist in closing business.

In addition to developing the digital strategy, visual design and information architecture, and implementing the overall VSC site strategy, Razorfish used a combination of technologies including EJBs, Websphere, JSP, and Java Script, to achieve the site’s functionality. Enterprise Java Beans were used to produce a robust and flexible architecture that allows scalability, reusability and portability. Since the code was written in Java it was completely portable to any platform, any application server, and web server backend.

“Because of our collaborative work with UUG, they are now able to expand their marketing and sales channels,” said Richard Gagnon, client partner for Razorfish. “The addition of after market suppliers and other non-dealership type partners is a major evolution from the conventional sales channels UUG has supported. It is expected that the addition of these partners will increase UUG’s market share — positioning it as the unequivocal leader in the vehicle service contract market and substantially differentiate UUG from their competitors. Razorfish helped UUG form a solution that will simplify the way their partners do business with them and streamline product introduction and distribution.”

Bikers’ enthusiasm worth pounds 20m listing on AIM

BIKENET, AN internet site for motorcycle enthusiasts created originally by fans and now half-owned by Dixon Motors, is seeking to list on the Alternative Investment Market with an offer that values the company at around pounds 20m.

The company, selling motorbikes, accessories and insurance online, aims to raise up to pounds 7m from the issue. Shares are expected to be priced between pounds 1 and pounds 2, and bike aficionados will be able to register for shares on the company’s website.

BikeNet, which is one of Europe’s largest motorbike affinity sites, supplies bikes made by Dixon’s subsidiary Carnell Motorcycles. It guarantees to deliver the lowest like-for-like price on its UK bikes.

The move onto AIM reflects the success of similar online car sites. Dixon is already involved in a similar supply arrangement for Jamjar.com. This Direct Line-owned site promises reductions of up to 30 per cent on dealers’ prices for cars.

Garry Cuthbertson, chief executive of BikeNet, said yesterday: “The flotation will secure for us first-mover advantage. It will also give us the working capital to increase market share.” He said the institutional uptake has already been strong.

Investec Henderson Crosthwaite has been appointed as adviser and broker to the issue, which is being offered to institutional and retail investors from tomorrow.

Docent Powers Harley-Davidson Service Technician Training and Dealer Certification Program Worldwide

The premier provider of business performance management solutions for Global 2000 companies, today announced that Harley-Davidson Motor Company, the number one U.S. maker of motorcycles, is implementing Docent Enterprise(TM) to support the technical training of its service technicians and the company’s dealer certification program. Through Docent, thousands of technicians and dealers worldwide have access to various learning opportunities for improved professional development and knowledge, enabling Harley-Davidson to align its training programs on its products and services to increase sales results and improve customer service.

In December 2000, Harley-Davidson was honored with the Automotive Training Management Council Award as the best training organization in the automotive marketplace. To build on the success of its award-winning training program, Harley-Davidson launched Harley-Davidson University Online in 2001 powered by Docent Enterprise. Objectives of its corporate university program focus on improving maintenance and repair training of service technicians and increasing the knowledge and sales, merchandising and non-technical skills of authorized Harley-Davidson dealers around the world.

As the lifeline to the company’s customers, Harley-Davidson dealers remain the best points of contact for the most up-to-date information on all Harley-Davidson product offerings and services. In addition, dealers offer the best in motorcycle repair and service from highly trained and certified technicians. Harley-Davidson University Online powered by Docent Enterprise offers instructor-led and Web-based curriculum on the company’s spectrum of products and services to ensure that both its dealers and service technicians remain the ultimate resource in providing the best knowledge, information and service to Harley-Davidson customers.

Furthermore, Docent Enterprise enables Harley Davidson to manage and track competency and learning development and properly certify its dealers on various products and services. Training registration is fully automated and dealer personnel can test their knowledge online and receive immediate feedback on certification achievements. As a result, dealers can personally manage their individual learning activities and Harley-Davidson can more effectively oversee and measure dealer knowledge and competency development. Through its dealer certification initiative, Harley-Davidson expects to increase productivity and ensure that dealership activities around the world are parallel with the goals of the organization.

“At Harley-Davidson, our most valuable asset has always been the passion and knowledge of our people, from employees and dealers, to distributors and service technicians alike,” said Benny Suggs, Director, Harley-Davidson University. “This is why we put so much emphasis on creating one of the best training organizations in the marketplace. Our dealers and service technicians don’t just sell and repair motorcycles, they build customer relationships.”

“Docent has played a significant role in helping global retail and manufacturing companies deliver customer and channel partner training and development,” said R. Andrew Eckert, president and CEO, Docent. “As a proven world-class training organization, Harley-Davidson recognizes the value enterprise-wide training programs provide to its overall business. Docent will enable Harley-Davidson to deliver critical knowledge to its dealers and repair technicians and transform its learning program into a global strategic initiative that will help the company tie knowledge and performance back to its business results.”
